Sixe Paredes (Barcelona, Spain, 1975)

2022, Barcelona

Cotton wool, rope and wood. Assemblage, 114 x 86 x 23 cm.

This work by Sixe Paredes belongs to the series Ensamblaje de telar, in which the artist experiments with multiple layers, textures and natural materials to create volume, depth and rhythm. Inspired by ancestral cultures and by the looms and quipus of Peru, it combines past and present in a language that merges tradition, spirituality and modernity. The piece is part of the curatorial core Matter, memory and territory, where materiality becomes a medium for cultural transmission and a sensitive archive of collective experience.

The perspective it adds to the collection:

We have incorporated Sixe Paredes into the collection due to his unique trajectory within the Barcelona urban art scene and the development of a distinctive and recognizable visual language. Throughout his career, he has explored painting, textiles, ceramics, and sculpture, integrating tradition and spirituality with references to ancestral cultures. Thus, he transforms traditional materials and techniques into a symbolic universe that connects past and present, and reflects on memory, the body, and territory. His work, both rigorous and sensory, invites an intuitive and immersive experience, bringing to the collection a poetic and experimental perspective.
