La Mano 2000

Nami (Barcelona, Spain, 1979)

2026, Barcelona

Acrylic and marker on canvas, 200 x 200 cm.

Nami's hand became one of the most recognisable icons of Barcelona graffiti during the 2000s. After a period of inactivity, the artist resumes their practice with this work, recovering and reinventing the visual impact of “La Mano”. Charged with meaning, this image connects with a universal imaginary and with the city's collective visual memory. Situated within the curatorial axis Play as creative impetus, their practice combines play and creativity as part of the process.

The perspective it brings to the collection:

We have included “La Mano” (Nami) for its historical and visual relevance within the graffiti and urban art scene in Barcelona, as it was the first to fill the streets with its icon. Its hand motif works as an urban icon, capable of connecting with the city’s collective memory. The combination of minimalist style, multiple reproduction and adaptation to different spaces makes the work a paradigmatic example of how graffiti can build its own language, identity and urban memory.
