The best Barcelona
Camil Escruela (Barcelona, 1990)
2026, Barcelona
Acrylic on canvas, 200 x 200 cm.
The artist Camil Escruela (Barcelona, 1990) combines urban, comic and illustration aesthetics to create a vivid contemporary imaginary. In The best Barcelona, digital research structures scenes like panels in which architecture, landscapes and emblematic spaces engage with everyday life. The use of black lines, vivid colours and spontaneous strokes generates a dynamic, playful universe, where chance and improvisation are part of the creative process. The piece shows how creativity, humour and everyday life structure his visual language. Situated within the curatorial theme Play as a Creative Impulse, it enriches the collection with a singular and optimistic universe.
The perspective he brings to the collection:
We have included Camil in the collection because he is one of the representative artists within the Barcelona urban art scene. In his imagery, everyday scenes, contemporary still lifes and moments of city life stand out. With a very distinctive and personal style, Camil combines lines, colours and characters in a spontaneous and playful way, building his own language that stands out within the contemporary context. The inclusion of this artist in the collection is based on the strength of his creative process, which derives from play, improvisation and spontaneity, generating works with a rich imagery full of vitality. His ideas, concepts and compositions are fresh and contemporary, establishing a direct dialogue with his generation and the urban and cultural context that surrounds him.

In 2016, Camil created the mural of the former Besòs Cinemas, giving visibility to the
neighbourhood's demand to turn the old cinema into a community facility.
Rebobinart documented the mural as a work by Camil Escruela.
It was a spectacular work, but the old cinema was the subject of a
demolition/redevelopment project. A 2023 photograph shows precisely the building in the
process of disappearing.
